We are very privileged to announce our newest program, the South Africa Jewish Leadership Initiative. Twenty Five of the most qualified young Jewish leaders will be chosen from the United States, the United Kingdom and South Africa to participate on a 7 day intensive learning and leadership seminar in the bush of South Africa’s Kruger National Park. The goal is to spark their growth in an understanding of Jewish philosophy and direct leadership training, while building a strong networked group identity for future personal and professional development.

The Staff will include Rabbis Akiva Tatz and Mordechai Becher, both renowned and prolific authors and lecturers, Rabbi Shmuel Lynn of the University of Pennsylvania and Mr. Harley Glass, Kruger Park Game Ranger. Accommodations will be centered at the Leopard Creek resort, approximately four hours from Johannesburg. Your mornings will be spent learning, afternoons spent gaming and engaging in bushcraft, while evenings will be left to cookouts and philosophy. Shabbat will be spent in the Johannesburg community.

We are seeking highly motivated young men, either upperclassmen or recently graduated (ages 20-27), who have displayed strong leadership qualities in their collegiate environments and whose relationship with Judaism could be described as comfortable at the least, if not already significant. If you’re warmed to your heritage, enthused by Jewish thought and empowered by taking responsibility for the future of your people, this may be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn Judaism and Leadership from the highest ideas down to the ground.

Applicants chosen from the first round will be asked to submit an extended essay and arrange a personal interview before final approval.

Testimonials

For me there is no better place to have a profound and fantastic learning experience than in the wild, untouched environment that is the African bush country. The teachers are some of the brightest Jewish minds anywhere, and it was great to meet and share stories and ideas with such a talented group from all over the world." — Michael Zorger 2009

When I look back at what we did together I marvel at it. The opportunity to spend so much time with these world-renowned teachers in a spectacular setting was more than I could have imagined…Everything else (KRUEGER!, Shabbaton, J-berg families ) was pure bonus, and what a bonus…Every aspect of the trip was perfect. I won’t forget all the great people I had the merit to get to know." — Paul Klibanow
